Days of Dress Up

I have been thinking about getting back into some ballet classes in the fall, an adult class mainly. The last time I went home, I looked through all of my old ballet costumes that were kept in a box up in the attic at the parents house. I pulled them out and realized I probably could not get one leg in most of them. haha.
So I found these while cleaning. They no longer fit, and they are definitely worn and tattered. They are my first pair of point shoes (c.1988) when I took ballet classes many moons ago. I cannot find the heart to part with them, so I wont.

It's A Zoo Out There!

This is the first time I attempted a zebra pattern on a round cake, or any cake for that matter. It was like trying to figure out how to upholster a round ottoman or something. A definite evening of slow and individual steps to create an edible pattern. This one was a fun task though, I would do it again. The birthday party was held at the Oklahoma City Zoo on a gorgeous spring afternoon near the Goose pond. What a great place for a childhood birthday party!

The Pumpkin Loft House

I am very excited for Halloween this year. I plan to bake lots of sugar cookies, cupcakes, and perhaps some pumpkin pie. I will worry about it this weekend when I can have baking A.D.H.D. I have started the harvest season off right by carving a pumpkin and making a halloween costume. There was a pumpkin carving contest last night at a furniture and design sales office. There were lots of very cool pumpkins - I should have taken a photograph of all of them, but for some reason I got side tracked and didnt get to it. There were lots of people dressed up in costume too, a flapper, a witch, a darling container of morton salt. And then there was me. Ill give you a hint: shiny pink satin fabric.
Here is my pumpkin that I carved out and dug deep for old model building tools from architecture school. It was fun to make anyhow and it has made a great conversation piece on my desk at work.

The Girlie Show

A friend I work with has produced this fabulous art show for four years now. The first year, it was small, fun, crowded and intimate. And from the second year onward, I was on the volunteer list and welcomed hundreds into the throws of the farmers market. Decked out in themed t-shirts and badges and big funky jewelry, each year my friends and I look forward to working the event to support our friends, earn a little volunteer credit to submit to the AIA, and the free temporary tatoos. There are lots of great things to look at and to take home too. One thing I found quite fascinating this evening were the dressed up barbie dolls. There were all kinds... dressed up in fish net stockings and pretty dresses. Frankenstein and his bride. Elvis and Priscilla. The one that I thought was the most amuzing though, is the Playboy Bunny Barbie. I think it is supposed to be Holly, Hugh Hefner's girlfriend, but I dont know for sure. :) Anyhow, all in good humor - lots of other local artists and some from out of state - whom Ive gotten to know a little more through Etsy - like Motokitty and Freshie and Zero.

The Girlie Show is still happening tomorrow, Saturday October 13th, 2007 from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - get in and shop and enjoy the music and atmosphere for just $5 bucks.
